Soon enough, over 200 million active users started recording music covers on the app, gaining tons of followers in the blink of an eye. That’s how many big time influencers became extremely popular. The app was later renamed TikTok, but their mission has remained the same: to showcase the world’s creativity directly from people’s phones. TikTok is so popular now that Snapchat’s founder thinks it’s going to be bigger than Instagram.

Now, in the influencer world, there’s something called a content house, where young and creative influencers live and work together to create new content. Over the last couple of years, these content houses have popped up all over Los Angeles. But in December of 2019, some of TikTok’s most popular stars got together and created the Hype House. And it wasn’t long before the hashtag #hypehouse​ started trending, raking in almost 100 million views on TikTok. 

But the Hype House isn’t some virtual construct in cyberspace. It’s a Spanish-style mansion in Los Angeles, California, where 4 of its 20 members actually live there. The others have rooms to stay in whenever they’re in town. And they have everything any young influencer could dream of like a fully stocked kitchen, a pool, and plenty of space to shoot videos. But the TikTok stars who live in there don’t get to do whatever they want. There are strict rules that must be followed at all times, or they risk getting kicked out.
