Perry spoke at the HRC gala in Los Angles as she was honored with the National Equality Award from the Human Rights Campaign or HRC for her work on behalf of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities. The pop icon reiterated her push for equality and against discrimination "whether it be in the LGBTQ community or our Latino brothers and sisters or the millions of Muslims in this country." She told the audience that even though she grew up being told homosexuality was a sin, she said he eventually found her "gift." "My gift introduced me to people outside my bubble and my bubble started to burst."
